Bombers: Same Faces; Different Outcome?

It is hard to criticize a team that has been to 5 straight Grey Cups…unless they lost the last 3 of them. Sure, some Bomber fans will say, I bet any other team’s fans would love to have had their team in the last 5 Grey Cups. But let me ask you this; who’s fans do you think are more excited, Winnipeg’s or Toronto’s? Toronto was in the Grey Cup in 2022, and won. Missed the game in 2023. But was in it again in 2024 and won. And while continuity is important on teams, Bomber fans may be wondering where is the wow factor that needs to join this team. This year Winnipeg will host the Grey Cup and so you can be sure that the Bombers would like to be in that game, and actually win it. But is bringing back many of the same players the answer? They had the skill and the fire power to get to the Grey Cup; but what held them back the last 3 years from winning it? The Bombers have been busy in this new year. Evan Holm, Kyrie Wilson, Shayne Gauthier, Willie Jefferson, Jamal Parker, ...

RB Spencer Brown is the Latest Addition to the Tiger-Cats Offensive Backfield

Running back James Butler at once was expected to be the Hamilton Tiger-Cats dominant running back for the foreseeable future. That is before Butler hit tough times during the 2024 season and only played in 11 games after playing in 17 games and rushing for over 1000 yards during the 2023 season. The productivity dropoff resulted in Butler requesting to be released, and the Tiger-Cats granting his release allowed him to sign with the BC Lions. Releasing Butler leaves the Tiger-Cats with an immediate need for high-quality players to add depth to their offensive backfield. According to the CFL Transactions list, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed American running back Spencer Brown. Brown has limited NFL experience but had a successful career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham during his collegiate career. For Brown, coming to Hamilton gives the 6’0″, 220-pound native of Warrior, Alabama, an opportunity to significantly contribute to an offense professionally. Before s...

Getting Defensive: DB Zamari Walton Signs with the Tiger-Cats

The theme of January 2025 for the Tiger-Cats is that they are aware that they need to get more playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. Recently, Hamilton has acquired several defensive linemen and defensive backs and re-worked the contracts of defensive backs Stavros Katsantonis and Jamal Peters. All signs point to the Tiger-Cats using their assets to improve their defence during free agency next month. However, that did not stop Hamilton from acquiring as many defensive players as possible before the CFL’s free agency period started. The Tiger-Cats recently acquired American defensive back Josh DeBerry , and according to the CFL Transactions list, the Tiger-Cats’ most recent roster addition is another American defensive back. Defensive back Zamari Walton comes to the Tiger-Cats roster after spending time with the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2024 NFL season. At 6’3″ and 185 pounds, Walton brings a long frame to the Tiger-Cats cornerback position group. Before being s...

Defensive Lineman Christian McCarroll is the Latest Addition to the Tiger-Cats Roster

One of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ greatest areas of need coming into 2025 is depth on their defensive line. During 2025, the Tiger-Cats had one of the least productive defensive line units in the CFL. Only Casey Sayles and Brandon Barlow were in the top 20 in the CFL in quarterback sacks. Sayles recorded seven sacks, and Barlow recorded five sacks. In addition to pressuring opposing quarterbacks, the Tiger-Cats also struggled to stop the run. Recently, CFL teams have worked to build dominant running games around dynamic runners, and in 2025, the Tiger-Cats were on the wrong side of those intense running games. Defensively, the Tiger-Cats allowed the second-most rushing yards in the CFL, with opponents running for 2,105 yards against them, averaging 5.7 yards/rushing attempt. Earlier this offseason, the Tiger-Cats made efforts to impress their defensive line by signing defensive lineman Owen Hubert after Hubert played his rookie season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2024. If t...

Hardwork Pays Off: Tiger-Cats Reward QB Mitchell during a Busy Week

In a league where 67% of the teams qualify for the playoffs, missing the playoffs is a big deal and motivates making changes during the off-season. After a disappointing 7-11 season and missing the CFL playoffs, the Tiger-Cats are in an urgent position to adjust to get the franchise back on track. One of the most significant changes made by the Tiger-Cats this off-season involved hiring Ted Goveia away from Winnipeg to become their new general manager. As Hamilton quickly approaches the 2025 CFL Free-Agent signing period, Goveia and the Tiger-Cats are making moves to get ready to upgrade their roster. This week, the Tiger-Cats have made key adjustments to their front office personnel, rewarded quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell for a job well done in 2024, released running back James Butler and defensive lineman Trevon Mason, and signed American wide receiver Brevin Easton. Hamilton is showing that they are an organization willing to make changes; over the next several months, there wil...

American DB Josh DeBerry is the Newest Addition to the Tiger-Cats Defensive Backfield

As the Tiger-Cats slowly approach the 2025 CFL Free Agency period, Hamilton and general manager Ted Goveia are working to maintain a strong defensive secondary. Last week, the Tiger-Cats started the new year by re-working the contracts of defensive backs Stavros Katsantonis and Jamal Peters . This week, the Tiger-Cats signed an additional defensive back; according to the CFL Transactions list, Hamilton signed an American defensive back, Josh DeBerry. DeBerry is a 5’11”, 184-pound defensive back from Warren, Michigan. In 2024, DeBerry spent some of the NFL season with the Dallas Cowboys. Coming to the CFL is an opportunity for DeBerry to prove that he has what it takes to make an impact at the professional level. For DeBerry, joining a strong defensive backfield with several veterans should make for an easier transition to football north of the border. Prior to signing with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent, DeBerry played college football at Texas A&M in 2023 a...
